Welcome to the Middlesex Deputy Sheriffs' Association
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to this opportunity to thank all of the Association members for their help and contributions. Each year only gets better in surpassing our goals and commitments to the cities and towns we serve. With your generosity and support, our ambitious goals were again exceeded.
We have seen many changes over the years, but one thing has remained the same; our shared commitment to our Community and our deep-rooted sense of responsibility towards improving the quality of life for the neighborhoods we serve. As our Association celebrates its 22nd year, I am thankful for the commitment of individuals such as you whose support is so vital to the success of our organization.

A Message from our Sheriff
James V. DiPaola, Sheriff Middlesex
I would like to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to the Middlesex Deputy Sheriffs’ Association. I am extremely proud of the Association's focus and volunteerism in support of our community.
Everything from crime prevention to children's programs helps bring camaraderie to our neighborhoods and ensure safety on our streets. Because of these outstanding efforts, we have seen our membership grow stronger every year and the level of participation has soared. You are reaching out to lend a hand to your fellow human, which shows how much you care about making our world a better place.
You have a responsibility to lead by example and be a role model for all others to emulate.
Over the past twelve years, our membership has swelled to over 1,000 men and women who believe that law and order are not mutually exclusive terms. We magnanimously come together under the banner of the Middlesex County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association to provide service and philanthropy.
This Association is not a social club, it is not a fraternity and it is not a status symbol. It is a testament to solidarity. The members represent all walks of life who pool their individual talents and
strengths to work together for the betterment of our community. The countless efforts of this organization are unsurpassed: the Crime Prevention Unit's community outreach, work with the Youth Academy, time and donations to Soldier’s Homes and Meals on Wheels, fundraisers for scholarships and numerous other charitable contributions. The uniformed divisions support law enforcement priorities, supplementing public safety at events across the Commonwealth.
By joining this organization, you have shown that you truly believe in the worthiness of promoting public safety. Thank you for your devotion to the success of the Association as we continue to grow
and move forward.
Very Best Regards and God Bless,
James V. DiPaola, Sheriff, Middlesex

Chelsea Soldiers Home The Sheriff’s Community Outreach Programs were very active in 2009 sponsoring and participating in events throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In August 2009 sixty reserve deputies joined Sheriff James V. DiPaola at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home annual barbecue, an event proudly sponsored by the Middlesex County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association. During the day, deputies helped with all of the preparations, transported patients to and from the event, prepared more then 500 barbecue meals and visited with the hospitalized veterans.

New Benefits for Active Association Members
These new benefits became effective on May 1, 2008 and represents a 50% increase in coverage for dues paid members of the Middlesex Deputy Sheriffs’ Association. The new benefit relates to heart and circulatory malfunctions. This benefit is similar to the new provisions of the Federal Public Safety Officer’s Benefit. These new benefits represent the dedication of the leadership of your organization to its members. This past year, the membership has been truly rewarding for the Association. We have increased our membership and have re-examined how to put our strength forward to benefit the law enforcement community. The old saying “there is strength in numbers” is certainly true. History has shown that our government at the national and local levels pays special attention to membership groups. That is just one of the reasons why being a part of this association is so important to our members. Over the past year we have exerted our strengths in positive ways and have won many important battles actively lobbying our elected officials on issues that are important to us as active duty and reserve officers. We organized social events throughout the year for the enjoyment of our members. Our annual golf tournament was cancelled largely due to poor attendance/registration we are sure due to the economy. This affected funds available for scholarships and other donations. Regardless, we were still able to awarded scholarships to our member’s children, a well-deserved group of high school graduates. We bonded together at our swearing in ceremonies, our families and numerous dignitaries joined in recognizing the outstanding achievements of our members. We reaffirmed our vows and readied our members for this years activities. In closing, may the good Lord keep you and your family healthy and safe in the year to come!
